AASP Goals

The AASP has set forth a number of goals and objectives, some of which are listed below. AASP Goals and Objectives include:

1. The advancement of integrated spinecare.

2. The provision of flexible and cost-efficient continuing education opportunities for spine physicians and spine specialists

3. The provision of educational opportunities and resources for patients and the public.

4. The development of programs and initiatives that facilitate cost effective spinecare.

5. Prioritization of conservative and cooperative spinecare.

6. Implementation of solutions which will reduce the prevalence of back pain and related physical disability.

7. The development of leaders within the spinecare field.

8. Educating the public about the important role of spinecare professionals of various disciplines.

9. Serve as a patient advocate, providing educational materials and programs that help keep the public informed about advances in the evaluation and care of spine disorders.

10. Work with the International Spine Association (ISA) on various initiatives and projects, including an International Spinecare Directory and the development of an informational database about the spine, spine disorders and available spinecare.

11. The promotion of open dialogue and clinical interaction between spinecare professionals of various disciplines

12. Creation and support for a National Spinecare Awareness Campaign with initiatives and strategic partners.

13. Implementation of resources and strategies that will encourage patients and the public to visit the online Public Information Center (PIC) of the International Spine Association (ISA)

14. Develop and offer credentialing programs for physician and non-physician members.

15. Serve as a reliable contact for the press to obtain accurate and timely information about spinecare and the role of spinecare professionals of various disciplines.

16. Dissemination of information about the benefits of conservative and cooperative spinecare.

17. To facilitate member-networking and "team-up" initiatives.

18. To acknowledge and make available spinecare products and services.

19. Develop strategic alliances/affiliations with educational facilities and other spinecare organizations.

20. Offer low cost candidate membership to future spinecare professionals in training (students, interns and residents).

21. Encourage spine physicians to participate in continuing education and to achieve credentialing via Diplomate status with the American Academy of Spine Physicians (DAASP) and Fellow status with the American College of Spine Physicians (FACSP).

22. Encourage spine specialists (non-physicians) to participate in continuing education and to achieve credentialing via Diplomate status with the American Academy of Spine Specialists (DAASS) and Fellow status with the American College of Spine Specialists (FACSS).

23. To offer practice development resources which members can use to expand their practices and related services.

24. Develop strategic alliances and "corporate opportunities”, which encourage healthcare professionals and companies to work together to improve spinecare.

25. Encourage and support a preventative, predictive, pre-emptive and personalized approach to spinecare.

26. Promote and support the evolution of multidisciplinary spinecare facilities (Centers of Excellence).

27. Positively shape the future of spinecare.

Expand and Educate Your Spinecare Network


Welcome to the Inform a Colleague area of the Academy Website. The American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP) strives to implement new and more efficient methods for members to communicate with other healthcare professionals. One of the most effective tools is the online "Inform a Colleague" function. This function can be used to expand and educate your spinecare referral network. It also represents a resource to conveniently inform others about trends in spinecare and about offers of organizations such as the American Academy of Spine Physicians (AASP), the International Spine Association (ISA). The link library also contains an application for membership with the AASP.

The online "Inform a Colleague" feature provides an invaluable time-saving service for keeping spinecare professionalsup-to-date, expanding the spinecare network, stimulating interdisciplinary referrals and for inviting colleagues to join the AASP. The library of links is always being updated with useful information and resources. The linked messages can be used to

Join / Renew


Member:
This level of membership is for physicians (MD, DC, DO) whose practice/interest includes patients with spinal disorders. ($295)

Affiliate Member:
This level of membership is for allied healthcare professionals involved in spinecare and/or spine research. This includes physical therapists, massage therapists, exercise physiologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician's assistants, diagnostic technicians, surgical technicians, exercise instructors, personal trainers and individuals who hold a PhD and work in the field of spinecare. ($150)

Candidate Member:
This level of membership is for residents, fellows and students who have an interest in spinecare. ($35)





Membership Renewal

Membership will automatically renew each calendar year starting from the date of membership renewal or membership acceptance unless the AASP is specifically notified in writing by the member at least 30 days prior to their renewal date. Please address all correspondence to the AASP Office of Member Services.

Review the accuracy of your contact information and practice profile information including your email address. To update your profile online go to www.spinephysicians.net and login using your unique member ID and PIN as noted below.

Please notify the AASP if you no longer meet membership criteria. This includes maintaining an active license to practice.
